National Recognition for Wisconsin Middle School Students
The 2024 ArcGIS Online Competition for US High School & Middle School Students results are in and two Wisconsin students are among those recognized at the national level.
Wisconsin participated in the competition, soliciting projects from middle and high school students for the state competition and sent the winning entry onto the national competition. Wisconsin had two middle schools participate in the state competition - Mt Calvary Lutheran School in Milwaukee and Oak Creek East Middle School in Oak Creek.
WLIA's panel of judges chose the project entitled Ideas to improve Mount Calvary School Playgrounds as the top middle school entry for Wisconsin. The project then went on to receive an Honorable Mention in the middle school category in Esri's national competition! The competition judges were impressed at the level of analysis from the student team comprised of Elijah Bowens (grade 8) and Keith Wright, Jr (grade 6).
See Elijah and Keith's project, below.
In addition to the entry from Mt Calvary Lutheran, WLIA judges recognized the following entries for a job well-done in the middle school category in the Wisconsin competition:
- Income and Spending by Jenna Losiniecki (grade 7)
- Outdoor Activities by Jawad Ali and Ayham Abdel-Baqi (grade 7)
Congratulations to our Wisconsin middle school students for their efforts this year!
And a very special thank you to our WLIA competition judges:
Sara Chiamulera, Tyler DeBruin, Doug Miskowiak, and Carmen Novak
