Spring Regional Spotlight: Land Information Challenges & Opportunities in Rural Wisconsin - Panel

Posted By: Sara Chiamulera Spring Regional,

You won't want to miss this exciting Panel Discussion on Land Information Challenges & Opportunities in Rural Wisconsin; and you won't if you register for the upcoming Spring Regional Meeting.

Panel Members:

Carrie Morrell, GIS/Land Information Coordinator at Clark County.  I’ve been in the GIS field since 2003; previously private and then with Clark County for the past 14 years.  Being from a rural county has presented its unique set of challenges and being here as long as I have has garnered some interesting insight and experiences in local government.  I am responsible for the majority of the GIS work here but what that looks like really changes as the people change.

Justin Meyer, County Surveyor at Taylor County. I started with Taylor County in September of 2022 as the Land Information Specialist and that position was combined with the county surveyor position in April of 2023 after the previous county surveyor retired.  My primary survey duties are the remonumentation and maintenance of PLSS corners, filing maps, drafting maps and tie sheets. My primary GIS duties are state submittals, parcel mapping and assisting other county departments and general public in both surveying and GIS related questions. Wearing two hats allows for a great variety of work each week and helps to refine my skill set.

Kate Drewek, GIS Coordinator at the City of Merrill.   I started my career with the City of Merrill as a certified Water Operator in the Water Utility Department in 2011. As a water operator, I started creating utility maps in ArcMap as time would allow until a full time GIS Coordinator position was created in 2016 and I have held that position since then. Approximately 75% of my time is dedicated to utilities and the remaining 25% is dedicated to all of the other city departments. Creating and maintaining the entire GIS system has been quite the experience, even in a northern rural city.

If you'd like to be a part of this exciting panel, and hear other riveting presentations, be sure to register for the Spring Regional Meeting! Additional details, including the full preliminary agenda, can be found on the event page.
