Pregame Picks: What if I'm Not a Mapper?
We're highlighting Workshops and Tracks to get you excited for Game Day. Which will you pick? The full preliminary agenda is available here and Sched, our online scheduling system, will be up soon with the final agenda.
So, you are thinking of attending the Wisconsin Land Information Association Annual Conference, but you don’t know if you will find anything that relates to your work and/or interests. You might feel intimidated by the technology discussions, the mapping presentations, and you’re not familiar with some of the vendors. Well, we might have a lot for you to see, hear, and feel at our conference!
Starting on Wednesday morning we have a couple workshops that might be right up your alley. We have “Communication & Alignment to Create Project Success” where you will learn tools to create buy-in and a shared purpose, understand how to navigate competing priorities, and develop a communication strategy to create alignment and engagement throughout the lifecycle of a project. This could be useful in any work environment. Another possible workshop is “Title Insurance: The Basics and Beyond” where you will learn about the other side of the real estate transaction. In the afternoon, we have a workshop called “How a Chicago Bears Fan Plans to Steal Lambeau Field – Property Fraud, It’s Happening Near You”. This will be an interactive discussion including real life fraud cases that are happening right now - some may even be in your backyard.
On Thursday, we have a few session tracks that might spark some interest. We have an entire track dedicated to Career Connections. You can stop in to get some career advice, networking opportunities, resume reviews, interview and career search tips and tricks, mock interviews, and maybe some real-life interviews. If you are set with your career, then we also have a session track geared towards Property Issues, including a survey index discussion, a session on the dreaded personal property shift to real estate, and electronic processing of certified survey maps.
Friday’s lineup includes a session on Developing Leaders. Have you ever wondered how someone else would handle a challenging situation differently than you? There will be a panel discussion to talk about project management, succession planning, communicating with elected officials, collaboration, etc. You never know what approach to leadership may help you tomorrow.
Let’s not forget about the social/networking opportunities we offer at our event. Tuesday night we have a pre-conference event at “The Turn” and Wednesday night we have ”The Opening” Polka Fest. Thursday night is the Exhibitor Reception and the amazing Map Gallery. Also lunch on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday offers great opportunities to meet new people and get inspired by your new friends! Please take some time to explore the agenda and see what sparks your interest.
