Allen H. Miller, WLIA's First President Passes Away
A great friend and true pillar of the Wisconsin land records community – Allen H. (Al) Miller passed away on November 11, 2021. He was 83 years old.
Al served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1960 until 1968, during which he served 15 months in the Vietnam War. He was the Director of Coastal Management for the State of Wisconsin for ten years and then became the Assistant Director for Outreach for the Sea Grant Institute at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Al was a main founder of WLIA and contributed much to our organization over the years. Back in 1978, Al, along with Ben Niemann, James Clapp, Art Ziegler and Project Manager Barbara Larsen produced a landmark report titled: “Land Records – The cost to the citizen to maintain the present land information base – A case study of Wisconsin”. Many in the land records community site this report as the main reason we have the Wisconsin land Information Program (WLIP) today.
Al served as the very first President of WLIA. Our organization’s most prestigious award bears his name: “The Allen H. Miller Sustained Service Award.”
WLIA extends it’s deepest sympathies to Al’s wife Judy and his entire family.
