Building-level assessment data, acquired annually by local assessors, includes detailed information on dozens of building attributes that can be used for a wide variety of purposes. Unfortunately, obtaining assessment data for Wisconsin communities in a machine-readable format is more difficult than you might imagine. The obstacles include technical and software issues, per-record fees, the data formats available, and restrictions on data redistribution. Come to this presentation and hear about our experiences with assessment data in northern Ashland County for a flood-related building inventory project.
